🌄 Top Places to Visit in Madikeri
1. Abbey Falls
Abbey Falls (Abbi Falls) is one of the most famous tourist spots in Madikeri, located amidst coffee plantations and spice estates. The waterfall cascades from a height of about 70 feet, creating a stunning view surrounded by thick foliage. A hanging bridge opposite the falls offers a perfect photo opportunity and panoramic views.
2. Raja’s Seat
Raja’s Seat, meaning Seat of the King, is a beautiful garden with a spectacular view of the valleys and sunsets. It was once the favorite spot of Kodava kings to watch the sunrise and sunset with their queens. The well-maintained park with musical fountains and seasonal flowers is a must-visit during your Madikeri trip.
3. Madikeri Fort
Built in the 17th century by Mudduraja and later rebuilt by Tipu Sultan, Madikeri Fort is a blend of ancient architecture and history. Inside, you can explore the church-turned-museum, a temple, and ancient cannons that reflect the town’s heritage.
4. Omkareshwara Temple
A unique blend of Gothic and Islamic architecture, this temple dedicated to Lord Shiva was built in 1820 by King Lingarajendra. The temple’s serene surroundings and central pond make it a calm and spiritual spot for visitors.
5. Dubare Elephant Camp
Located on the banks of River Cauvery, Dubare is a popular wildlife camp managed by the Karnataka Forest Department. Visitors can interact with elephants, watch them bathe, feed, and learn about their daily routine — a favorite among families and kids.
6. Nisargadhama & Bylakuppe
Nisargadhama, a beautiful island formed by the Cauvery River, is perfect for nature walks, bamboo groves, and boating. Nearby, Bylakuppe houses the Namdroling Monastery (Golden Temple) — one of the largest Tibetan settlements in India.
7. Talacauvery & Bhagamandala
Situated about 48 km from Madikeri, Talacauvery is believed to be the birthplace of River Cauvery. A sacred site with a small temple, scenic hills, and divine serenity — it is one of the most spiritual and scenic places to visit in Coorg.
